The National Elections Commission (NEC) has surrendered to the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) by including its candidate in the Montserrado County District #11 Representative By-election.
Recently, the legal counsel of the National Elections Commission excepted to the ruling of the Hearing Officer of the NEC in the case “Nomination Complaint” filed by the Congress for Democratic Change and Independent aspirant Edwin Zoedua on one hand and the National Elections Commission on the other.
In his ruling, the Hearing Officer mandated the Nomination Committee of the Electoral District # 11 Montserrado County Representative By-Election to accept and process the nomination papers of the aspirant of the Congress for Democratic Change, Jerror Emmanuel Tarwo and Independent aspirant, Edwin Zodua and if found to comply with the nomination requirements, the two aspirants will be qualified to participate in the By-Election.
According to the NEC Acting Chairman, Elizabeth Nelson, following receipt of the notice of Exception to the ruling of the Hearing Officer of the NEC, the Board of Commissioners met and reviewed the decision of the hearing officer.
Cllr. Nelson said following the review process by the Board of Commissioners, it did not obtain a quorum on the matter, therefore, according to Chairman Nelson, the Hearing Officer's final ruling remains in full force and effective.
As a result, NEC says it has processed and qualified Independent Aspirant Edwin Zoeduah and Jerror Emmanuel Tarwo, aspirants of CDC and are to participate in the forthcoming Representative By-Election as mandated by the Hearing Officer.
