As fire disasters continue to escalate in the country, another fresh fire incident has resulted to the death of three children in the Jamaica Road community on Bushrod Island.  According to our reporter who went on the scene of the incident, three children were burnt to death last Friday night when a ten-bed room house was gutted by fire when one of the occupants left an unattended candle burning in the room.

The charred remains of the three kids were identified by family members as Jenney Dagoseh, Alex Boima and little Ramatu. According to the owner of the house, Momo Fofonah, the fire started from one of the rooms in the house where the burning candle fell on a mosquito net thereby setting it ablaze since it is a combustible substance.

He disclosed that a moment later when the net was gutted by fire it began to spread like bush fire thus causing most of the occupants of the house including himself to take to their heels for their lives.

Explaining further, Mr. Fofonah lamented that desperate attempts were made by him and other occupants of the house including their next door neighbors to rescue the kids but was to no avail as the fire had engulfed the entire building.

He added that some concerned neighbors and some occupants of the house wept and sobbed because of the tragic incident.

Fofonah added that while attempting to get out of the house for safety he fell on the floor in the house from suffocation and said that had it not been for one of his boys in the community he would have undoubtedly been among the dead children.

Mr. Fofonah narrated that while the fire was blazing several residents began to call the famous 911 and other emergency numbers to help contact the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) to extinguish the fire. He said minutes later, a fire truck and an ambulance drove in swiftly to quench the remorseless raging fire that was advancing to his neighbors' houses.

Fofonah who appeared dejected, frustrated and bewildered said, “ My family, other occupants and I are left with nothing substantial now and I am therefore appealing for any humanitarian assistance.”

At the same time the charred remains of the three kids have been dispatched to Grand Cape Mount County for burial.

In a related development, the Homicide Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) in collaboration with their United Nations Police (UNPOL) counterparts went on the scene to collect cogent information.
