Liberian Refugees In Netherlands Risk Deportation...Appeal To Government

Liberian refugees residing in the Netherlands are appealing to the Government of Liberia to immediately intervene in a matter to prevail on that country's government from deporting them to their motherland because of lack of status.
A spokesperson for the group told The Inquirer yesterday that because some of them do not have political asylum and that others' status have not been renewed it is likely that the Netherlands government will deport them.
He said they have credible information that the country's government is seriously contemplating deporting them because of the lack of status therefore they are appealing passionately to the Liberian government to act now to avert the situation.
He said the office of the consulate has been doing well, but this effort will not achieve the desired results without the involvement of the Liberian government.
He said the same way the Liberian leader, President Sirleaf has pleaded for Liberians on the Temporary Protective Status (TPS) in the United States, the President and government could do likewise for those in the Netherlands.
“The only hope we have now is the government of Liberia to immediately intervene to help us,” he pointed out.
When contacted, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Public Affairs, Horatio Bobby Willie told the INQUIRER that such information has not reached the Ministry yet.
Minister Willie noted that if these refugees could inform government through the proper channel the necessary action could be taken.
