Yellow Fever Awareness Campaign Intensifies...3m Targeted For Vaccine
The massive awareness to sensitize residents on the effect and danger of yellow fever is in full swing as series of workshops are planned to educate people. Voinjama, Lofa County, is one of those places the workshop has commenced. According to our correspondent in the county, a special National Yellow Fever Vaccination Advocacy Campaign and Social Mobilization Workshop, has opened in the county bringing together local residents including district officials, chiefs, health workers, LNP officers, religious leaders among others. Speaking at the opening of the Lofa County awareness workshop, Mr. Gabriel Hina of the National Health Promotion Division of the Ministry of Health said the up-coming vaccination exercise would be held throughout the entire country and will target three million persons.
He said the vaccine would be administered to babies from nine months to adults. According to him, pregnant women and children between the ages 0-8 months would not be vaccinated. The decision of the ministry to carry out the exercise, according to reports is a preventive measure to reduce the effect of the disease especially in the wake of reports that yellow fever has intensified in most parts of the country.
